My summary is this: You have a question that is about naming and claiming scripture. I ask you a question. Do you accept the testimony of another? If you think about it, the issue is not with heresy, but with believing in yourself. We need more of those! And we need more bereans who have made mistakes! and who allow people to make mistakes. Bereans are those who have diligent studied the scriptures with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
After a harrowing ordeal within the church concerning the idea that whatever you read in scripture you can claim it regardless of circumstance I am now able to share.
"Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses." [Joshua 1:3; KJV]
Can you take this for yourself? Rather I'm gonna ask another question. Under what circumstances can you claim this for yourself? I was thinking about accepting people at their word. That is my answer to those who say that you have to test everything. Do you accept people at their word. When the person spoke and said, "this is my experience, and this is what happened?" did you accept what they had to say? did you reject what they said?
As I write this I'm listening to a song by IHOP from onething10. the words go like this:
"I won’t be afraid
I will face the wind
I won’t be afraid
I'll embrace the flame"
wow what a crazy song. Am I ready to embrace those words? am I ready to live the life that reflects those words? It all seems to melt together as I think about this topic. Because I think there's something deeper in this argument than just "naming and claiming" I think they have touched on something people really want. They want to believe that what they say is true.
Who wants something to live for? who wants something to die for? Who is after substance and meaning in life? that they can dream big and see those dreams realized. I'm glad that this topic has been brought up because we need more people to believe that what they dream will happen.
They truth is far, far better. The truth is, we have a King sitting in heaven who has conquered all the armies of the earth and has dominion over all the earth, they bow before Him and cannot say a word against Him. His Father has said:
"Ask of Me, and I will give [You] The nations [for] Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth [for] Your possession. You shall break [fn] them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.' "
In 1000 years the Israelites did not possess the inheritance they were asked to take. in one moment, Jesus will forcefully receive the world as His inheritance. He writes later:
saying: "We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come, [fn] Because You have taken Your great power and reigned. The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth."
I think that it's quite funny that the same idea is repeated over in these verses: "The nations raged, were angry, and your wrath has come" it seems to be a direct quote from Psalm 2.
We have something better, we have a Beloved King who's beauty is infinite and incomprehensible, who's heart is ravished over us, who's heart beat is desire for us. And he is not ashamed of it.
The song continues and says (to the effect of) "He is the one who holds you in his hands - he never looks away" this one is also the one you can make mistakes around. That's right, we need people to make mistakes! without mistakes you don't learn! What would it look like to have an army of dreamers who go after their dreams? Well, you make a mistake, go back to God and repent of it. and He'll give you more grace.
In conclusion, you can't be a berean without having made mistakes. We need more bereans, who run with this! a theology that is practical!
