"The fig tree puts forth her green figs, And the vines with the tender grapes Give a good smell. Rise up, my love, my fair one, And come away!" (Song 2:13)Each time you are excited about a new development, change, experience etc the effect is that it gives off an aroma. Each time you discern that you are growing in compassion or faithfulness or that you are any number of emotions it lets off a fragrance of new life. The more that you discern these changes the more excitement and more rejoicing that happens!
It's like when the rose blooms and there is a fragrance attached to it because it is growing. But I never want to be stale, i never want to be in boredom. I know that true pleasure is found in becoming more like Jesus, who is glad, angry, rejoicing, happy (blessed), sorrowful, pained, confident, lovely, patient, compassionate, gracious, merciful, slow to anger, faithful, kind, good, joyful, peaceful, gentle, self-controlled. (what multitude of other characteristics, emotions, thoughts are attached to the person of Jesus?)
Father is the one in Heaven who is controlling the north wind or the south wind to come and blow upon your garden. It all begins with patience. To be able to rejoice in any circumstance is all provided by Jesus, he gives the ability to start laughing uncontrollably when you believe and say "I rejoice in You" how powerful is that? While Jesus was on earth He said:
"Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?" (Luke 17:18)Giving glory to God is all related to seeing the wonderful works that God has done.
"Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen," (Luke 19:37)It's made very simple in smells because you can take this to anyone and say "You've gotta smell these spiritual fragrances!" and God is no judger of persons.
"saying: "'Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD!' Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"" (Luke 19:38)
In Luke Chapter 17, the story is recounted that links True Forgiveness and Radical Obedience to faith. And He turns right around and the first thing He does is cleanse ten lepers of their leprosy, but none of them had the humility to come back to Jesus and give glory to God. If it's so simple, that 2 people doing exactly the same thing (Luke 17:35,36) can be counted differently, it's incentive to lay down everything and find what gives glory and pleasure to God. And not just to be grateful that you have been healed but actually come to the Lord asking forgiveness and he would give it (which is the building block of real obedience) O, what kind of a gift has He given by the Holy Spirit!
